Pediatricians play a key role in promoting breastfeeding and supporting families. All of our Physicians and Nurse Practitioners are pro breastfeeding.

Lakeside Pediatrics also supports this role in our Pediatric providers by promoting further education and certification in Lactation services. We offer you access to three, on staff IBCLCs.

IBCLCs are providers who have chosen to further their education and certification. IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLC is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. under the direction of the US National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

Our providers, during normal visits, will communicate with our new moms the benefits of breastfeeding and the risks of formula feeding. Should you have additional questions or need further breastfeeding support and services beyond these regular visits you may schedule with one of our IBCLCs.

Our IBCLCs will:
  • Assess breastfeeding and manage common breastfeeding problems (issues with the latch, tongue ties, concerns about the supply and use of medications).
  • Know the local resources available to you (WIC, breastfeeding support groups, breast pump rental stations, etc.)
  • Understand how to use breastfeeding equipment and be able to support women who wish to return to work or school while breastfeeding.
